(Phnom Penh): Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, announced the railway department is currently studying the construction of tramway on Monivong Boulevard as a new means of public transportation hoping to reduce traffic congestion in the Capital.
The Minister announced while inspecting new trams ordered from Mexico which will be used to transport passengers from Phnom Penh Railway Station to Phnom Penh International Airport and other destinations.
The rails will be embedded in the roadway and tramway can share the street with pedestrians and automobile traffic without fear of accidents, he confirmed.
In the near future, the new tramway will be officially inaugurated under the highest presidency of Prime Minister Hun Sen, he added.
